| Day Care Centre |
|
Up to 70 patients each week who are living at home attend the Day Care Centre which provides mutual support and friendship for patients along with a few hours respite for carers. The activities arranged at the centre include art classes, visiting speakers and outings, each designed to encourage patients to regain the best quality of life that their illness allows and learn new skills. The social interaction is, for some, the most important reason for attending. The companionship provided by the group, encouraging laughter, sharing experiences and a sense of belonging helps patients manage their illness. The centre is run by specialist clinical staff who provide advice and assess patients clinical needs. Complementary therapies are offered where appropriate and the centre is supported by a team of volunteers. |
